Debra Bowen is barely ahead in the polls, but McPherson has three times the money for advertising. (Cash on hand as of Sep. 30: Bowen $365,000, McPherson $1,011,000 Around the Capitol).

Help by

  • Contribute, and get friends to contribute.
  • Send pro-Bowen letters to newspapers.
  • Call independent voters at a phone bank or from your home (If you are willing to call outside your local area, let them know).
  • Sign Debra Bowen's 10 point "Voter Bill of Rights" to restore confidence in California's voting system!
  • Vote for Debra Bowen in Russ Feingold's Patriot Fund, which will give out $5,000 to the most important Secretary of State candidate.
  • Host or Attend a House party to raise money and publicize her candidacy.

Election Night Monitoring

We will be monitoring the election results. We want you to help by printing the form and instructions at http://election-reform.org/monitor/close_of_polls.html, going to your polling place just before 8:00 pm, copy down the data on the form, and then go home and submit it over the web. This takes no training, and only 45 minutes, and will help make the election more secure.

Sen. Bowen is the only elected official who publicly:

  • Challenged Secretary of State Bruce McPherson on his certification of Diebold voting systems. (details)

  • Stated we must increase transparency in elections to restore voter confidence, even if it is not convenient for the Registrars:

Senator Bowen has extensive legislative experience with elections issues, e.g. authoring SB 370 that made the voter verified paper audit trail the official record for audits and recounts.

Senator Bowen is chair of the State Senate Elections Constitutional Amendments Committee, and has held hearings on Diebold, the certification process, broken voter registration process, etc (details) .
